Obituary of Nancy Smallhouse

Nancy Smallhouse passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 22, 2024. She was born Nancy Ann Nordlund in Denver, CO on June 8, 1932 to Peter and Florette Nordlund and attended University of Denver where she was awarded the highest academic honors, was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and served as chair of the Pan Hellenic Council.  She met her future husband there, Chuck. They were married for 60 years and raised three sons in Los Altos, CA and retired to Oracle, AZ in 1993 near Chuck's roots in Redington, AZ.  Nancy is predeceased by her husband, and survived by her sons, David (Sarah) of Tucson, Daniel (Cathy) of Fair Oaks, CA, and Mark (Tammy) of Sandy, UT, grandchildren Thomas, Laura, Matthew and Megan, her niece, Elizabeth Gay, and nephew, Andrew Smallhouse. She was a primary school teacher and later, a travel agent. Nancy and Chuck traveled the world widely and loved backpacking, skiing, and hiking, especially in the Sierra Nevadas. She was a devoted wife and mother, an avid reader, civically active, and a loyal friend. For those who would like to honor her memory, the family suggests a gift to Tohono Chul Park where she was a volunteer for many years.
