Robert Spackman

Obituary of Robert W. Spackman

Robert Ward Spackman, 84, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024. Born on May 9, 1939 in North Ogden, UT, “Bob” was the first child of Ralph & Reita Spackman. An avid athlete in high school, Bob played baseball, football, and ran track. He entered the Marine Corps in 1960 and became a celebrated fighter pilot, winning the Britannia Trophy for Aerial Gunnery in 1961. Bob married Eve Emily Hernandez in the LDS Oakland temple in 1967 and moved to Longmont, CO where they had three children. The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1978 where he continued to work at IBM as a cost engineer for a total of 38 years. At his retirement, his peers and associates regarded him as a man of “honesty” and “upbeat friendliness” who had a “wealth of knowledge.” Bob loved nothing more than supporting his kids and grandkids in their extracurricular activities — he always showed up. In the little free time he had, Bob was extremely active: hunting, skiing, running marathons, and road biking right up until his body would no longer allow it. He is survived by his wife Emily, sister Joan, three children Paige, Brett, and Kami, and five grandchildren Remington, Savannah, Camden, Cole, and Grant.
