Judie Bass

Obituary of Judie Bass

Judith L. Bass’ passing on January 12, 2024 is not the end of her wonderful journey, but the continuation of her celebration of the goodness in this world and the next. Forever the optimist and always happy, loving, and caring, Judie was born in Denver, Colorado in 1939 as an only child to her parents, Frank and Elvira. Judie was raised in a large, loving Italian family with numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins, from whom she learned the beauty of God, laughter, and appreciation of great food.

Judie graduated from the University of Colorado and later married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Banks of Denver. She and Joe shortly thereafter moved to Tucson, Arizona where they raised three energetic sons, Geoff, Ron, and Colin.  Judie was very active in her church as a leader of the church youth group providing a positive influence to the community.  She also spent many years volunteering in the classrooms at her children’s school prior to her professional career.  Judie was much more than just a mother to her three boys, she was also a surrogate parent, mentor, and friend to many, even opening their home to those in need.  Always with a smile on her face, Judie brought joy and love to everyone she met.

In 1983 Joe and Judie went their separate ways but remained good friends. Judie later met and married her loving husband William Bass, gaining a wonderful daughter Alicia in the process.  Judie’s family would quickly grow to include 3 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.  Judie’s professional career included working for Hughes Aircraft and then later for Pima County, where she retired after 20 years of exceptional service.

Always with a smile and positive words, Judie embraced every day looking for the goodness in people and life.  Judie was a consummate reader of cozy mysteries and science fiction books.  She loved John Denver’s music, Star Trek, Star Wars, dragons, and cats, which led to an unusual and whimsical assortment of books and collectibles.

Judie will be forever remembered as a kind, caring, and loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. The Bass, Banks, and broader Italian families will celebrate her life on Feb 3, 2024 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Tucson, Arizona.  She will always be loved!
