Obituary of Ernest Howard Blackburn

Ernest “Ernie” Blackburn, age 87, born in Taft, Texas, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully at Peppi’s House in Tucson, Arizona on June 30, 2023.

The son of E. F. (Frank) and Bertha Blackburn, Ernie grew up in Aransas Pass, Texas. At the age of 18, Ernie enlisted in the Unites States Army National Guard after which he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ernie highly valued his service in the Air Force and earned the rank of Master Sergeant during his 23 years in the service. During this time, he earned the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze star, Air Force Good Conduct Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Longevity Award with 4 oak leaf Clusters and Small Arms Expert ribbon. Early in his career, he worked in aircraft maintenance on C-124, KC-135 and B-52 aircraft with the 19th Logistical Support Squadron and Strategic Air Command (PACCS/SACCS). Prior to retiring Ernie transferred to civil engineering. After his military career, he worked another 22 years for Learjet in Tucson until retirement as Facilities Manager.

Ernie loved his family very much and was a proud husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time outside hunting, fishing, and caring for his yard. Ernie is survived by his daughter, Debbie and son, Jerry (Yolanda), granddaughter Christina all of Tucson and many friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Billie.

A service honoring the life of Ernest Blackburn will be held Friday August 4, 10:00 A.M. at Bring’s Broadway Chapel 6910 E. Broadway.
