Obituary of Enrique Zamora

Master Sergeant Enrique “Henry” Zamora, USAF retired, 86, born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, entered into eternal life on February 14, 2023. For 44 years of his life, he proudly served his nation on active duty and in the civil service.  During this time he was assigned to the HQS Security Service, HQS NORAD-Intel, was assigned special duty with Air Force One and the late president, Mr. Richard Nixon and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His career took him and his family all over the United States and the world: San Antonio, TX; DMAFB, AZ; Osan, Korea; Frankfurt, Germany; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Athens Greece; Rhein-Main AB, Germany; Taiwan, Republic of China; Aviano, Italy; Homestead AFB, Florida; Kadena AB; Guam; Yokota, AB. Out of all the places he has been, Germany always was where he heart longed to go back and where his fondest memories were. Mr. Zamora affectionally known as Chico by his peers, was the manager/bartender/greeter/stand up comedian of the Officer and NCO clubs where there was never a dull moment and it was always 5 o’clock. It did not matter if you were a General, a distinguished visitor or a brand new airman, no one was a stranger to him and he would always make them feel like a VIP with a big smile and a joke ready to go. Henry was known around Tucson for his bigger than life personality and when he strolled through the doors of his favorite place (Fry’s, Little Anthony’s, El Molinito) everyone knew he was there and they were ready to be instructed in the art of “B.S” as Henry would call it. He always put God first in his life and was a dedicated servant to the catholic church. He served as an usher for 35 years at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, was a distinguished Past Grand Knight of Regina Cleri, Council #5133 and was the Arizona State Man of the Year 1980-1981. Above all he was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, tio, brother and did whatever he could to provide the best life for his loved ones. His family will forever cherish the memories of him in the kitchen, golfing, playing cards (duces never loses!), going to the casino, watching sports and his amazing capacity for love. Umpa Ham as he is known by his loved ones was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Eva Zamora; brothers, Ernie, Rueben, Fred, Art, Beto Zamora and sister, Licha Cantu; grandson Carlitos Zamora, who guided his hand up to heaven. Survived by his loving wife of 65 wife, Mary Helen; sons, Enrique (Stephanie), Carlos (Esther) and Rolando (Letty) Zamora; daughters, Jenny (Frank) Garcia and Deirdre (Elvis) Camacho and 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Military Honors under the direction of the Davis-Monthan Base Honor Guard and the 4th Degree Honor Guard of the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Knights of Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bring’s Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway.
