Obituary of Albert Dell'Grottaglia

Albert Dell’Grottaglia, 90, of Tucson, AZ, and formally of Austerlitz, NY passed away at home on August 26, 2022. He was born in Bronx NY, NY, the son of Maryann Adamo and Cosamo Dell’Grottaglia. He moved to Austerlitz at the age of 10 and graduated from Chatham High School. He worked at Crellin Plastics and as a union carpenter for Peter Kiewit Construction. He was best known in the Austerlitz area as Al Dell Builder and held positions as town constable, fire chief, EMT and school bus driver but mostly as a person you called when you needed help. He moved to Tucson in 1999 where he continued to work in the construction field.

 

Albert is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen (Dooley) DellGrottaglia, his children Albert Dell’Grottaglia & Claudia Garcia of Eustis, Florida; David and Wendy Dell’Grottaglia of Ghent, NY; Cosimo Dell’Grottaglia of Gladstone, Oregon; Gina Dell’Grottaglia of Utica, NY; Gregory & Sherry Chapman of Pittsfield, MA and Scott and Crystal Chapman of Cheshire, MA; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

 

He will be laid to rest in the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona after a military sendoff on October 21st at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Austerlitz Fire Company.
