Obituary of Carmen S. Birkby

Carmen S. Birkby Carmen was born and raised in Gordon, Nebraska on January, 26, 1935, and passed away on May 17, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona. In 1955 she married Walter Birkby and they eventually moved to Tucson. She attended Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri, and Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln Nebraska where she studied music. Carmen was a longtime member of the Sweet Adelines, singing both in the chorus and in a quartet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walter Birkby, and is survived by her daughter, Julianne (Mitchell) Mattis; son, Jeffrey; grandson, Tyler (Tiffany) Mattis and dog, Mimi. A celebration of Carmen's life will be held on Friday, May 22 from 1 pm to 3 pm at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred to the Humane Society.
