Obituary of Charles J. Monka

Charles John Monka, USAF, Ret., took his final flight on January 31, 2016. He was born September 14, 1928 to Jerome and Evelyn Monka in Manitowoc, WI. He graduated in 1947 from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, WI and then joined the Air Force to serve in conflicts in Korea and Vietnam. On August 17, 1950 he married Carol A. Zeddies from Manitowoc, in Sequine, Texas. He is survived by his wife Carol of 65 years, daughter Lynn, San Diego/Tucson; Mary Jo of St. Augustine, Florida; John P. (Bambi) of Tucson; and Richard (Pam) of Tucson, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Charles Michael, parents Jerome and Evelyn, and his brother James J. Monka. After retirement he was employed by Hamilton Aircraft and Duval Sierrita Mine. He was active in the Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball with his sons. He was also an active local, regional and national officer with the IOF, AFSGT Association and the TAC Tankers. He enjoyed traveling around the world, RV travel through the USA and Mexico, golf and fishing. Burial will be at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pima Air and Space Museum, VA Hospital, or a charity of your choice in his name would be appreciated.
