Obituary of John Perry Broussard

John Perry Broussard, 72, went to be with the Lord July 1, 2016 after being challenged with a disease called Myositis. He was a hard-working husband, caring fun-loving dad, supportive brother, goofy grandpa, respected uncle, precious friend, and servant of God. John is survived by his former wife Grimalda Broussard; his two children: Gina (Steve) Scionti and Gary Broussard; his two granddaughters, Brianna Scionti and Karla Broussard (all who live in Tucson, Arizona). He is further survived by his sisters Mary Rose (Tucson) and Ruth Starks (Tucson), brothers Ian Broussard (Boulder, Colorado), Jack Broussard (Bellingham, Washington), and Paul Fletcher (Redmond, Oregon), as well as many other family and friends. John was born in Kirkland, Washington in 1943. His younger years consisted of moving from home to home with his mother and siblings. His father was stationed in Adak, Alaska working for the Navy. After completing high school in Washington State he joined the army. He was enlisted from 1963-1966 as a ground surveillance radar repairman in Fort Huachuca. After serving in the army he moved to Tucson. In 1966 he was employed by Hughes Aircraft as a technician and became a specialist in their missile program. In 1970, he met Grimalda G. Broussard and they were married in 1971. They shared 44 years of marriage until a recent divorce. However they soon reconciled and became good friends. John had a passion and enjoyed modifying and making things better. He loved tinkering with everything. Whether it was electronic, mechanical, solar, computer-based, vehicle related, or even hydraulic, he was gifted to take things apart, learn how it worked, then modify it to make it better. He taught himself the skills that he used, but would frequent the library (and later the internet) for resource books. He was a jack of all trades! He also loved to take road trips especially when it was to the local "DQ" Dairy Queen! After John retired from Hughes in 1998 he started working and attending at Christ Community Church. He was involved with their sound and technical department. He called it his home away from home. He spent so much time there the church gave him his own office. He loved the Lord and absolutely loved helping others; one would be hard-pressed to find a time in which he did not stop and offer assistance or help anyone in need regardless of the cost, distance or time that he spent helping them. His corny sense of humor, quick wit, and puns are what people will remember most about him. Our faith in Jesus and the outpouring of love and support from family and friends will always remind us of how special and loved John was. Thank you to the VA, Christ Community, Chad and others who helped our dad continue living as comfortably as possible as his health declined. To the staff and maintenance department of Canyon Oaks Apartments we are so grateful for your help in making his apartment handicap accessible. We are thankful for the staff at St. Joseph's ER, the staff at Devon Gables, and the nurses and staff at OSHYN Hospice for the care they gave our father the short time he was there. Most importantly thank you to his sister Ruth who promptly helped get his medical needs taken care of. The visitation is from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Bring's Broadway Chapel on 6910 East Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85710.
