Obituary of Mary Charlotte Thurtle

Mary Charlotte Thurtle 10/25/1961 - 8/25/2012 Artist, social activist, archaeologist, writer, beloved sister, and dear friend Mary Charlotte Thurtle died on August 25, 2012. Mary was the youngest of Patsy Tyner Thurtle (1922-2004) and William Robert Thurtle's (1923-1988), five children. Born in Wichita Kansas in 1962, Mary spent her younger years in Western Washington State as her family moved there shortly after her birth. Mary moved to Tucson in 1992 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Archeology. She worked for 13 years as a professional archaeologist and recently co-authored the book, Last Water on Devil's Highway. Mary earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Studies in 2009 from Prescott College and devoted the last years of her life working as a film maker and social activist, most notably as the Director for Pan Left Productions, an organization that believes in using media for social and environmental justice and change. Mary had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and died of pneumonia. She lived a life dedicated to helping others achieve their dreams and will be lovingly remembered by a wide circle of friends and her three brothers and sister.
