Obituary of Charles W. King
Charles W. King
June 2, 1930 - December 12, 2012
Charles was born to Margaret and Merton King in El Dorado, Kansas. His
childhood was spent on the family farm where he learned to work. At five,
his first job was opening and closing the field gates for the work horses to
pull the wagons through. He earned five cents a day and cookies from
mother's always full cookie jar. Charles graduated from the University of
Kansas with a BS in Business. He was a pitcher on the KU baseball team. He
was NROTC member. After graduation he served in the US Navy in the Korean
Action on the Philippine Sea, an aircraft carrier. He was a naval aviator
in squadrons in Norfolk, VA, Kingsville, TX, Pensacola, FL, Jacksonville, FL
and Guantanamo, Cuba during Fidel Castro's takeover. He flew 29 different
models of aircraft including single and multi engine props, seaplane, and 19
different jet aircraft. In 1960 Charles contracted polio while in the
service. He became 100% disabled and was wheelchair bound thereafter. After
rehabilitation Charles graduated from the University of Arizona Law School,
was admitted to the Arizona State Bar and practiced family, estate planning
and business law for 30 years in his firm, King and Frisch, P.C. Charles
King was active politically in the Republican party, serving his country as
precinct committeeman, Republican County Chairman, a member of the Arizona
House of Representatives for four years, and an unsuccessful candidate for
governor. Charles was a member of many organizations: 30 years plus Rincon
Rotary Club, founding member Pima Air Museum, 12 year member of Pima County
Planning and Zoning, Masonic Order Lodge 56, Sabbar Shrine, Scottish Rite,
Disabled American Veterans of Foreign Wars, Arizona Historical Museum,
Association of Naval Aviators and Butler County Historical Center. Charles
is survived by his wife, Phyllis and son, Bill (Leticia); granddaughters:
Dr. Christy King, DPM, Allison King, Loni Jakubowski and Angela Zamarron.
Great-grandchildren: Baily Kill and Hudson Jakubowski. Charles' son, Robert
King, daughters, Terry Joos (Wade) and Jill Webster (David) predecease him.
A service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 am, at BRING'S
BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. In place of flowers please remember
Charles with donations to Polio Plus, a program to stop polio worldwide.
