Margaret Cantrell

Obituary of Margaret Cantrell

Margaret was born on August 17, 1919 in Franklin Indiana. She was the daughter of Lillie and Gideon Johnson and had two brothers; Paul and James ("Junior") and a brother Gilbert who died at birth. She also had three sisters; Mary, Shirley and Dorothy. Paul and Junior pre-deceased her but her sisters still live in Indiana. Margaret's very special cousin, Edelle Shockley, who was like a sister to her, also lives in Indiana. Margaret was married to Skyler Cantrell in 1942. They had one son, Skyler Scottie Cantrell, who survives her. She also had a step-daughter, Patricia Cutshall whom she loved dearly, and who lives in North Carolina. Margaret's two grandchildren, Skyler III and Michelle, each have one child, making Margaret the great-grandmother of Katherine Joy Cantrell and Kylie Christine Moran. A homemaker most of her life, Margaret was also an accomplished seamstress. Much to the family's surprise, she tock up oil painting and water colors when she was in her 70's. In 1971, Margaret moved to Tucson. She was a member of Mountain View Church of the Nazarene which she regarded as her "family." She loved meeting new people and always was smiling and friendly. She shared this with the elderly in hospitals and nursing homes and organized church members to make frequent visits, bringing music and gifts and making a "joyful noise!" The things people most remember about her are her faith in God and her lovely smile. She always encouraged family to "keep looking up" and to "stay in the center of His will." Eddie always referred to her as a "Prayer Warrior" because of her faith in God's will and her willingness to pray for friends, family, and total strangers! She lived a long life and touched many people's lives with her encouragement and thoughtfulness. In the last few years she was lovingly cared for by Patsy Arandia who treated her like her own mother. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
