Obituary of Evelyn Cox Paul

Evelyn Cox Paul died quietly and peacefully on November 29, 2013 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born on June 17, 1921 to Frank Ramsey Cox and Cordelia Townsend in Hopkins County, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Marion and her husband Macey. She is survived by her brother Frank Cox, daughter Helen Paul (Steve Arnold), granddaughter Megan (Dustin) Jeffries, grandson Samuel Arnold, and great grandson Corbin Macey Jeffries. Evelyn began her long career in community service in Kentucky at age 21. During World War II she worked for the American Red Cross in St. Louis and in San Antonio. She and Macey moved to Minneapolis shortly after their marriage where Evelyn worked for Hennepin County Social Services for many years. She retired in 1984. She and Macey moved to Tucson in 1995, in search of more sun and less snow. Those who knew her will remember her as an avid birder and the creator of wonderful handknit sweaters. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and an opinionated person who valued her independence. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Evelyn will be interred at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations to the Nature Conservancy in her honor are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
