Obituary of Frederick Fetter

Frederick Roger "Ric" Fetter Born March 28, 1947 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania and was taken to his heavenly home on December 25, 2013 while surrounded by his family. Ric packed a full life into his 66 years. A Boy Scout, he achieved the highest honors of Eagle Scout and the Pro Deo Et Patria award. Even though Ric lived in Tucson, Arizona for 11 years, the Philadelphia area was home. He was all about everything Philadelphia - a Temple University alumni, a big time Eagles fan, a lover of a true Philly cheese steak, and he could certainly navigate around the city. He knew Philadelphia, in and out. He was employed by WPVI, Channel 6 Action News for over 30 years. He edited news film and moved to the job of TV news cameraman. He had great work stories, from the time he "got the shot" while being run into by the pro football players to having Pope John Paul pour him a cup of coffee. Ric loved outdoor sports. His high school football career was very short, but he enjoyed running cross country and wrestling. While he was often fishing and camping, hunting was by far his favorite pastime, especially with his favorite hunting dogs. He was both an excellent archer and shot. Ric achieved the highest rating trap shooting and had planned to become a certified skeet instructor. One of the few times he was bested was when he was at a week-long camp and discovered his camp mates were members of the Secret Service! He loved horses and enjoyed riding his own horse. Ric could be found at the Devon horse show every year and always following the horse racing circuit. The Triple Crown and the Breeder's Cup were major events for Ric. Ric's Arizona years were much different. He moved to Tucson after an injury which left him wheelchair bound. He remained an Eagles fan, but now it was only on TV. Ric continued his love affair with Formula One racing, which required him to pull "all nighters" to watch on TV. The silver lining to this dark cloud was that some wonderful people came into his life - people he dearly loved, honored, and respected. Even with this major life change, Ric never lost his faith. He attended Our Saviour's Lutheran Church as many Sundays as his health would allow. He became the unofficial greeter outside the church door, always encouraging the kids to "slap me five!" and they would happily oblige. Ric was preceded in death by his parents Esta S. and Walter R. Fetter. He is survived by his sister Betsy Boorse (Rodney), nephews Derek Boorse and Graham Boorse (Kristin) and their children Alina and Emmet. A celebration of Ric's life will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Speedway and Campbell on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be with his parents at the Whitemarsh Memorial Cemetery in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
