Obituary of Audrey R. Edwards

Edwards, Audrey R. (Gillis) July 18, 1922, to January 21, 2014 After a long life lived with an unquenchable spirit, Audrey died in Tucson, Arizona, on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, after many years of serious health problems. She was the daughter of the late Gordon and Helen (Kane) Gillis of Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she received her early schooling and served as Head Girl at Halifax Ladies' College (now Ambrae Academy). She excelled at swimming, diving, and field hockey. At her doctor's recommendation, she moved to Tucson in 1948, where the climate was more beneficial to her severe asthma. She embraced Tucson as her new home, enjoying the warmth, the mountains and the scenery. She cherished her new friends as family. She loved her pets and her Arizona Wildcats. Audrey was predeceased by her husband, George Edwards, and her brothers Gordon and David Gillis, and nephew Paul Gillis. She is survived by her brother, Donald (Gretchen) Gillis of Halifax, and several nieces and nephews in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. A memorial service will be held in Tucson at a later date.
