Obituary of Harold E. Haines

HAINES, Harold Earl "Hal", 1919 - 2014, 94, Chief Warrant Officer, United States Army (Ret.), passed away of natural causes on February 19, 2014 in Tucson, Arizona. Born on August 4, 1919 in Oswego, Oregon, Hal was the son of John C. and Jesse M. Haines. Growing up in Oregon, he attended West Linn Union High School and became an avid golfer. He married Marguerite Charlesworth in 1941 and they had two children, Sharyn Haines Buffa and Stephen Haines. After the passing of his wife Marguerite, he married Ethel M. Dahlquist in 1972. In addition to their primary residence in Tucson, Hal and Ethel maintained a second home in Oregon. After his military career began in October 1941, Hal spent most of World War II with the Signal Corps at a number of posts in Alaska. He later served a number of tours in Europe and at various U.S. installations and received numerous decorations before retiring from active duty in 1968 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, followed by a number of Civil Service positions from which he retired in 1976. In addition to his loving wife, Ethel, Hal Haines is survived by his daughter, Sharyn, of Costa Mesa, California, and his son, Stephen of Tucson, Arizona, along with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at BROADWAY BROADWAY CHAPEL. In lieu of flowers, the Haines family suggests friends and family make a donation to their preferred charity.
