Obituary of Elbert Louis Scouten

Elbert L. "Bert" Scouten August 7, 1929 ~ April 17, 2014 Bert passed away surrounded by his loving family and Pastor. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June; daughters, Debra (Mark) Stratton, Kim (Ron) Gressley, and son, Randy (Stacy) Scouten; grandchildren: Chad (Kelly) Gressley, Kevin Gressley, Eric Stratton, Travis Stratton, Carissa Stratton, Cason Scouten and Jake Scouten, and great-grandson, Jackson Gressley. Also survived by sister-in-law, Verna Tubbs. Bert was born in Corry, PA, and raised on a dairy farm in Spartansburg, PA. A graduate of Penn State University in 1951, he taught vocational agriculture and science at Manheim High School. He then served in the army during the Korean War. He returned to teach before relocating to Auburn, NY to work for Agrico Chemical Co. and G.E. In 1965 the family moved to Tucson where Bert obtained his MBA at U of A. He held business management positions in various companies and was co-owner of Scouten-Regina window and door company. Real estate became his career of choice; he taught classes for many schools including Pima College, As broker-owner of Eureka Realty, he enjoyed all aspects of the business, served as a board of director, and was able to express his love of the land through the Casabel Ranch Properties he and his partner managed along the San Pedro River. For 23 years he maintained a 2 acre parcel a block from home where horses and various animals were raised and enjoyed by the children. He supported their 4-H activities, sports and especially church life where everyone participated. He loved to travel, take out his ski boat, play with the dogs and volunteer where needed. The grandchildren remember many family gatherings, pool parties and fun times with grandpa—AKA Papa—to the boys. A kind, gentle man, Bert will be remembered for his cheerful smile and positive attitude. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway, on May 17th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Christ Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
