Obituary of Gregory G. Babich

Greg Babich 1/23/1957 - 6/10/2014 Greg Babich is and will always be loved. Adored by Colleen, his wife and soul mate, cherished by his daughter Nichole and son John. Precious to his granddaughter Salome and his grandson Noel. Loved by his whole family... as father, pappy, uncle, brother. Loved by his friends. Greg's was a quiet love that embraced you and a quiet strength that impressed you. We can all remember his extraordinary talents as an artisan in tile work and as a master musician. Yet Greg was also brilliant, a humanitarian and mentor to all of us. Although many of us have appreciated his wit and humor, only Colleen knows he was a great dancer. He loved that R & B. We realize now that Greg was akin to a spiritual guide. He, on earth, rose far above us in his quiet and temperate consideration of mankind. And, oh my, what a fantastic blues guitar player. Ask anyone here or on Beale street. No one, family, friend, or co-worker, can remember a harsh word with or from Greg. His tile company, Babich Tile, leaves masterful work. The music from the thirteen bands in which he performed, from Isaiah, Mercedez, and The Boogie Animals to The Usual Suspects, The King Bees, and then on CD with Zo and the SoulBreakers, leaves an everlasting legacy. If you have seen it, you may sense that Bonnie Raitt's tribute to Stevie Ray also befits Greg Babich. His leaving is a seemingly impossible void to fill. Yet he did show us how to endure, to be patient and considerate, and to appreciate each moment. All of this with that quiet love. His father would be proud. Let us continue this legacy. Although too sudden was this loss, with the memories of Greg's strengths, humor, splendor, and pride, and with the abundant opportunities to share our tender moments and random tears with family and friends, we will survive. He was our strength, our maestro, our Pride and Joy. Go with God, Greg. We will do our best to follow your strides of compassion and courage. An open house memorial for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Email [email protected] for location.
