Obituary of Linda Watkins Hewlett

Linda Watkins Hewlett Linda, a fourth generation Tucsonan, was born on May 6, 1947 to the late Frank and Mollie Watkins. She passed on June 29, 2014 at her home in Tucson. She received wonderful care from the nurses and staff of Carondelet Hospice and Palliative Care. She spent her entire younger life in Tucson and was a graduate of Vail Junior High and Rincon High School. In these earlier years she became very interested in Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, undertaking research and writing lengthy papers on these subjects. Her interest in history carried over into her studies at the University of Arizona, where she graduated in 1968 after only three years of study with a Bachelor of Education degree with an emphasis on history. Her rapid progression through college was prompted by her mother's dictate that she couldn't marry until the degree was obtained. With her characteristic attention to detail she did in fact marry Robert A. Hewlett that same year, 1968. Throughout her life she devoted her considerable talents in the support of her husband and her two children, Alexander T. Hewlett and Andrew C. Hewlett. This talented lady also found time to be a substitute teacher in various Tucson junior high and high schools, assist in Anna Henry Elementary School as an aide, serve as President of the Bisbee Woman's Club and Secretary of the Arizona chapter of the American Association of University Women and on the Board of Directors of the Bisbee Arts and Humanities Council and raise and educate two accomplished sons, whose achievements are to some degree reflective of the scholastic influence of their mother. Alex holds B.S. D.O. and M.S. degrees and is employed as a gastroenterologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Andy graduated from Tulane University and is a Senior Systems Engineer for Flexera Software of Orinda, California. Linda and Bob also found time to make many extensive and happy trips, taking many cruises in various parts of the world and traveling throughout Europe, Asia Minor, Southeast Asia, South America as well as the Untied States, Canada and Mexico. Linda also enjoyed playing golf and serving in her church. Recently she and Bob were ushers and would spend time each month preparing sandwiches for the Tucson homeless. Linda was truly a wonderful, wise and caring person who will be truly missed. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bob Hewlett. Also surviving her are her sons and their wives Alex (Angela) and Andrew (Gina) and their children: Lauren, Braden, Aiden and Isabella Hewlett and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, 401 E. 26th Street, Tucson, AZ 85713. There will be a viewing on July 2 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 Pm at Brings Broadway Chapel and a Funeral Service at St. Philips in the Foothills Episcopal Church on July 3 at 11:00 AM with interment at East Lawn Cemetery with a reception to follow. Arrangements are by Bring's Broadway Chapel.
