Obituary of Richard John Von Borstel

Richard John Von Borstel, 62, formerly of Munster, Indiana, passed away September 2, 2014 at his home in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his brother Donald (Kathleen) Von Borstel, his sister Kathleen (Anthony) Ashton and his daughter Katie Von Borstel, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Marguerite and Carl Von Borstel, and brother Thomas. Richard grew up in Munster, Indiana and attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Munster High School. He enjoyed all sports, excelling at high school tennis. After attending Indiana University, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and in 1987 relocated to Tucson where he specialized in insurance sales. Richard always had a special fondness for basketball, mainly for the Indiana University and the University of Arizona teams, and rarely missed a game in 27 years. He was a faithful member of Tanque Verde Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities and made many friendships. Richard loved to spend his evenings at the dog park with his daughter Katie and beloved dog Sophie. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E Tanque Verde Road, Tucson, AZ 85749, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Esophageal Cancer Action Network or Tanque Verde Lutheran Church.
