Obituary of Muriel Anne Gately

Muriel Anne Gately Born July 3, 1934 in Rockville Centre, NY to Francis/Muriel Roberts Gately. Died January 6, 2015. Oldest of five siblings, Jane, Sue, Frank and Al. Attended St. Agnes Cathedral School. Moved to Torrance, CA in 1940's, attended Torrance/Narbonne High Schools. As class valedictorian, received a full scholarship to USC, met/married Richard E. Hook in 1954. Had four children, Richard Jr., Kevin, Sheila and Elliott. Moved to Tucson in 1961, Tumacacori in 1968. Wrote for the Green Valley News, a much beloved teacher at Nogales Sacred Heart School. Returned to Tucson in 1978, worked for the city's Transportation and Citizens Participation departments until retirement. Enjoyed visits with family/friends in CA, as well as an epic Ireland trip. Remained active in civic/church programs including PCOA's Alzheimer's Education, St. Frances Cabrini choir, Star Spangled Seniors. Survived by four children, siblings, Sue and Al; seven grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, cousin, Mary E. Carry. Will be remembered for her generous loving, caring, joyful spirit. On Saturday, January 31, 2015, her life will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass at St. Pius X Catholic parish, 1800 North Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ.
