Obituary of Ronald T. McCarthy

Ronald T. McCarthy, better known to all as Ron, 80, passed away on April 12, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Ron was born in New York City in the borough of Manhattan on July 11th, 1934. During his  lifetime he also resided in Phoenix, AZ, Winston Salem, NC, Poway, CA, San Diego, CA, Vestal, NY, and Tucson, AZ.  While serving in the United States Navy, Ron was aboard the USS Oriskany aircraft carrier as an ET3 enabling the ship's power and electronics system. Following his naval term, Ron enrolled in Arizona State University where he graduated with his BS in Electrical Engineering followed by earning his MBA. Ron was initially employed by Ryan Aeronautics in San Diego, then accepted a managerial position for IBM Owego. Ron retired from IBM after twenty-five years and a long and dedicated career as an electrical engineer. Ron married Mary Huff in 1957. They remained married until 1984. Together they raised four children who survive him:  Kevin Ronald McCarthy (Pamela), Brian James McCarthy (Donna), Kathleen Ann McCarthy (Dennis), and Annette Marie McCarthy. Ron was Cub Scout leader and little league coach. Ron was also the proud grandfather of his surviving grandchildren: Aubrey DeVries, Shannon McCarthy, and Christopher McCarthy. He was predeceased by the loving mother of his children, Mary Margaret McCarthy. Ron married Diana in 1984. He remained her loving husband until his death. Ron enjoyed running, skiing, and remained an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fine food and wine. Ron is survived by his wife, Diana McCarthy. He is also survived by Diana's son, Brian Lynch (Liz) and their children, Sean and Ethan.  Ron will be greatly missed for his laugh and his smile, for his impressive golf swing, and for how he blessed others with his intelligence and his dedication. Ron will always be remembered as one who assisted, advised, and motivated others to achieve their dreams. Ron passed at the Handmaker Assisted Living Center and the family wishes to send their sincere thanks to the caring staff at Handmaker for their exceptional care.  The family also wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by Marty Marsh, his private caregiver. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 2pm, at Brings Funeral Home, on Broadway, in Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a Parkinson's foundation of your choice.
