Obituary of Carolyn Brown Archibald

Carolyn Brown Archibald passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Academy Villas Assisted Living Facility, Tucson Arizona.

She was born January 4, 1942 in Cheyenne Wyoming, the daughter of Harold P. and Helen L. Brown. She was raised and educated in Southeast Wyoming and graduated from Laramie Wyoming High School. After graduation she attended the University of Wyoming, studying chemistry and mathematics. After her junior year she interrupted her college education to marry her lifelong partner William E. Archibald and took a two-year absence from college while Bill served in the US Army. She always spoke of that as “when we were in the army.” After Bill’s service they returned to Laramie where she completed her Bachelor’s degree, graduating in 1966, during which time Bill attended graduate school. For the next 33 years she was a devoted wife and mother, raising two children, Patrick and Cynthia while Bill worked in the high-tech industry.

During that time she pursued her love of art and studied oil painting, graphite and colored pencil drawing, and her special love, watercolor painting. She was an active member in the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild and participated in several of their exhibitions.

Carolyn also served as president of the Y-Wives club in Tucson and for several years was secretary of the Arizona Pontiac Oakland Club Chapter 29 in Tucson.

After they retired in 2000 Bill and Carolyn traveled outside of Tucson for several months each year, ultimately traveling to every state in the union during their 57 years of marriage.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Richard Brown. She is survived by her husband, a daughter Cynthia Archibald Caraballo and a son Patrick William Archibald, both of Tucson. She was also survived by her brothers Sylvan E. Brown of La Mesa, CA and Billy E. Brown of Laramie, WY. There are also three grandchildren.
