Charlotte Dickson

Obituary of Charlotte Dickson

Charlotte K Dickson

Born November 10, 1940 and ascended to heaven June 13, 2020.

Born in El Dorado, Kansas to Lawrence and RaDean Lipscomb who proceeded her in death. She attended El Dorado High School. A picture of her leading the Band as Drum Majorette across the then newly opened Kansas turnpike is still a prevalent and historic picture of the event. Many youthful stories include water skiing in the freshly inaugurated El Dorado Lake. This was indicative of the life of adventure that awaited this young, vibrant woman. Her love for the movies both past and present was a source of joy and entertainment that continued throughout her life. In later years, it was truly the classic movies she enjoyed, and she passed that appreciation down to her children.

Entrepreneurship started early and would revisit her during her life. Initially in early 1960, she and then husband George Dickson invested in a dance hall – “The Cage”. They sold the endeavor not long after and life continued in El Dorado, Kansas. Soon, their first child, Mike Dickson, was born on the inauguration day of President John F. Kennedy in 1961, and Charlotte refused to go to the hospital until she finished watching the speech.

Having survived 7 tornado strikes and the economic downturn of local economy, the decision to relocate the family of three was made. Arriving in Tucson, Arizona in 1962, the plan to grow the family and build on successes began. Three more children were born; Diana Dickson in 1965, Steve Dickson 1968, and JoAnn Dickson in 1969.  Charlotte’s devotion to our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ was forged at a young age with the Catholic Church. The value of this relationship was so high, she took great lengths to pass this knowledge on to the children. A woman with great faith and a strong unrelenting prayer life, she prayed to God in all matters. Her prayer list was two and three pages long, full of names of friends and loved ones, but most of all her beloved family from children to great grandchildren.

Purchasing a locally owned business in 1979, was a joy and high point for the family. Watching her younger children grow, Charlotte was devoted to her children as a parent and loving mother. Her devotion to family took a turn in later years caring for her mother. Her only interruption as a Tucsonan was a short period in Kanas to look after her mother RaDean, after her father Lawrence passed. In all, 58 of Charlotte’s 79 years were spent locally here in Tucson.

Charlotte had many passions besides her children. One was her deep love for the southwest reflected in the home decor. What she was unable to find, she created with her beautiful talent of capturing many southwest scenes on canvas and showing her love of the southwest.
