Joyce Groshans

Obituary of Joyce Lenora Groshans

Joyce Lupo Groshans was born February 2, 1934 in Erie, PA to William Grieshober and Florence Bookspan. Her parents divorced when she was four and she was fortunate to have two sets of loving step-parents upon both parents remarrying. Joyce always felt lucky that she had five brothers and once sent them each a t-shirt saying “Joyce’s favorite brother.”

Joyce married John Lupo and they had four children, Philip, Jeff, Michelle, and Jennifer. They soon tired of the snow in PA and moved to Tucson, AZ in 1962.

Joyce sold Electrolux vacuums door-to-door starting in 1967 which resulted in many clients and friends. She earned many prizes for her sales ability. Joyce started her real estate career in 1979 with Shadron Realty which was later acquired by Merrill Lynch realty. She won several trips throughout her real estate career and considered her trip to London and Germany a highlight. Joyce spent the last 25 years of her real estate career with Coldwell Banker.

Joyce married Ed Groshans in 1982 and was blessed with a step-daughter (Cara). Joyce and Ed were married for 26 years until Ed’s passing in 2008. They enjoyed traveling together throughout the US and internationally with many trips to visit Cara and her husband (Dan) in Washington, DC as a highlight.

Joyce always had a love of dancing and attended many dances at Doubletree, Eddy’s, Viscount, American legion, and Maverick. She met “great gals” out and had wonderful friendships with these ladies. There were many parties, dinners, and fun times. Wayne Petter slowly inched his way into her life at these dances and they had fantastic times together over several years. Joyce had a huge party for her 80th birthday with 250 guests and family and she danced the night away.

Joyce battled Parkinson’s disease for decades and became very involved in Parkinson’s support groups, boxing, zumba, and other exercises to slow down the disease progression. Even in her final years in assisted living Joyce stayed active with physical therapy.

Joyce is predeceased by her youngest son Jeff Lupo and leaves behind her children Philip (Maria) Wolfe, Michelle Fugere, Jennifer Lupo, and Cara (Dan) Sherwood, her grandchildren Heather (Dave), Danielle (Jarrett), Jennifer, Lillian, and Allyson, and her great-grandchildren Madeline, Ben, Ava, Nora, Hazel, and Ellis.

Goodbye to all my friends – keep on dancing – have fun everyday – thank you for all the good times!

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Parkinson’s foundation.
