David Givens

Obituary of David Givens

On Tuesday, 30 August, 2016, our dad, brother, uncle and grandfather passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side. He was born 26 March 1947 in Boone, Iowa. David grew up in Murray, Utah. He was a wrestler for Murray High School and played drums in the band. In his junior year he moved to Park City, Utah where he attended high school and supported himself by working in the restaurant business. Upon graduating from Park City High School in 1965, he continued his training as a chef. In 1966 he enlisted In the Marines and was deployed to Vietnam where he served two tours of duty as a chef in the officer's mess hall. In 1968, during his 3rd tour, he was deployed to the field and was severely wounded while on patrol, forever changing his life. Despite this hardship, he was stoic, productive and kind with everyone that had the pleasure to know him. After a period of healing, he began a career installing flooring. Since he was unable to adapt to the prosthetics that were available at the time it was a good option. He said that he was on the floor anyway, so he might as well make some money while he was there. A trained chef, he had a great appetite and made great food a priority. He also kept his sense of humor to the end, often making people around him laugh. He was preceded in death by his father George Givens, his mother Shirley Lentz Robinson, step father Clyde Robinson and sister Barbara, brother Tom. He is survived by brothers Jim (Sandy), Clyde Jr. (Beverly), Bill and Ross; his sons Brandon and Chad (Tokiko), along with 3 granddaughters, Nola, Lydia and Emili. He will be interned at the Veterans cemetery in Sierra Vista, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please follow his example, as he made regular donations to the Michael J. Fox foundation. SEMPER FI
