Obituary of Ronald Chavez

Ronald "Ron" Chavez September 14, 1951 - September 9, 2016 Ron was born in Tucson AZ and was the second of five children born to Randolph and Christina Chavez, who preceded him. Ron graduated from Rincon high school in 1969 and from the University of Arizona in 1973. Growing up in Tucson as a teenager he was always a huge help to his parents in a lot of different ways, including helping with yard work and pool maintenance which he enjoyed. He was happy to transport his younger siblings to their sports events and activities, always with a smile. As an adult his parents spent many summers in Fremont enjoying Ron's generosity and warm hospitality. Ron had a love for animals and enjoyed raising rabbits over the years, while growing up in Tucson. Ron moved to Fremont California in 1979 and was a social worker in Alameda County and the State of California also spending time in that profession in Sacramento. He ultimately returned to Fremont where he made his home for the last 35 years. Ron easily made friends and remained close with numerous co-workers since his retirement twenty years ago. Ron truly found his passion when he founded Grupo Fremont a nonprofit group whose mission is to educate and assist Hispanics in the Bay area who are HIV+. Ron's compas¬sion and love for people enabled him to truly make a difference in providing support and guidance to those in the Hispanic community. His commitment to Grupo Fremont was unwavering, which came naturally to him due to his sincere compassion, generosity and love for people, es¬pecially those in need. Ron's loving and giving nature assisted the Hispanic community in numerous ways and helped them to advocate for themselves and enrich their lives and health. Ron is survived by siblings Daniel (Sharon), Robert (Nancy), Christina Swift (Paul) and David (Denise), his partner, Guillermo "Antonio" Osuna and his 14 loving nephews and nieces—whose lives he made richer and rewarding as their Uncle/Tio/Nino.
