Obituary of Joaquin Quihuis Lopez

LOPEZ, Joaquin Q. "Jack" 87, went to be with our Lord on October 10, 2016. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, caring brother, loving grandfather and great- grandfather and sincere friend. Jack was born in Tucson, AZ, on January 31, 1929. He graduated from Tucson High School in 1949. Jack was drafted into the US Army, and proudly served in the Korean War conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was gifted with amazing technical skills, and enjoyed a successful 42 year career with Pacific Fruit Express (PFE) Railroad, where he was a highly respected colleague, supervisor, and mentor to many. On September 6, 1954, Jack married the love of his life, Virginia, and they were married for 62 years. Jack's greatest pride and joy was his family. Jack loved traveling, holidays, and any gathering with the family, where he enjoyed grilling, and watching UA sports. He enjoyed gardening, and grew beautiful and assorted roses and plants. In addition, Jack had a special place in his heart for animals, and they were special to him, from childhood and throughout his adult life. Jack's craftsmanship and love of woodworking are evident in his many creations, including picture frames, tool boxes, holiday displays, and gifts for others. He was strong in his Catholic faith and had been actively involved in his parish. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Joaquin and Geronima; sisters, Margaret and Alice and brother, Albert; In addition to his wife, Virginia, Jack is survived by his siblings, Dolores, Carmen and Nellie; children, Jack Jr. (Bina), Patty (Wayne) and Sandra (Manny); grandchildren, Delisa (Larry), Gilbert John (Shea), Brianne, Kristen, Rocio (Ponce), and Diego; seven great-grandchildren and the newest blessing, his latest great- granddaughter who is due in December.
