Obituary of Phyllis Delaney Kelly

Phyllis Delaney Kelly, 79 of Tucson, AZ passed peacefully on November 1, 2016 of complications from multiple falls. Born December 14, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Richard and Bridget Delaney and grew up in New Bedford, MA. Having moved to Phoenix as a teenager, Phyllis met and eventually married Roy E. Kelly in 1955 and became an Air Force wife. Multiple duty stations took them to Europe twice and many bases in the U.S. After retiring in Tucson Phyllis, in a commitment to her faith, became dedicated to St. Joseph's Catholic Church and School. She worked and volunteered there for over 25 years. All of her girls went through Girl Scouts and Phyllis became an assistant troop leader, cookie drive coordinator and all around volunteer for more than 20 years, until she could no longer physically manage the demands of leading young girls. And of course none of us can forget her enjoyment in playing and reaping the benefits of bingo! One of her favorite sayings was "Happiness is yelling Bingo!". Phyllis had multiple health issues but remained independent until a series of falls this past summer caused her to be hospitalized, and although she succumbed to the frailty of the human body, her spirit remained strong and determined until the end. While we will miss her, we are grateful that she has been called home and will be with other family members and friends who have gone before her. She is survived by her daughters Bridget Standring of San Diego, Yvonne Kuever of Tucson, Margaret Carrillo of Tucson, and her son Scott Kelly of Tucson, as well as sisters Joan Delaney and Bernice Mros of Phoenix. Three grandsons also graced her life; Shane Wiley of Soldotna, AK, Nate Coppenbarger of Colorado City, AZ and Dominic Carrillo of Tucson. Services to be held on Friday November 11, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft Rd, Tucson, AZ. Viewing and visitation at 9 a.m., Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Reception following at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd, Tucson, AZ.
