Obituary of Jayne Godfrey

TUCSON - Jayne Godfrey, age 84, died at her home in Tucson AZ on November 21, 2016, after a short illness. She was born on December 14, 1931 in Chicago to Ray and Alma (Reible) Irvin. Jayne attended High School in Chicago and Beloit, Wisconsin. She worked in Washington D.C. for a short time and then with the Beloit Daily News when she met her future husband, John Godfrey. They were married May 1, 1954. In 1959, with four children, the family moved west to Southern California for a new opportunity in the emerging aerospace industry; Jayne at Rockwell and John at Hughes Aircraft. Jayne held several different positions at various points in time; as an electronic typesetter, work in a realty office, and a clerk at a city police station. They went on to have two more children, while at the same time designing and building an addition to their house in Fullerton. The addition doubled the house's size to accommodate their growing family. Eventually the house was sold in 1981, and after several moves to different locales in the area, Jayne and John moved to Northern California in 1988 to an area near Grass Valley, where they both retired. Their last move was to Tucson in 1994 - the house she occupied up to her death. Her children include five sons and one daughter. Bob Godfrey (Iris Hengst) of Madison, WI, Sue Hedley of New Haven, CT, Pat Godfrey (Rhonda Godfrey) of Carmichael, CA, Jeff Godfrey (Jane Godfrey) of Tucson, AZ, Mike Godfrey (Cathy Godfrey) of Carlsbad, CA, and Tom Godfrey (Dawn Godfrey) of Roseville, CA. Jayne also had 12 grand children and three great-grand children. Jayne was preceded in death by her husband, John; one sister, Mona; and brother Jack. Her twin sister Patricia Popovics lives in Beloit, WI. Memorials may be directed in her name to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (alswisc.org)
