Obituary of David Douglas Hutcheson

David D. Hutcheson, affectionately known as Hutch, passed away at the age of 71 on April 2, 2024. He was born in 1952 to Frank and Nadine Hutcheson in Tucson, AZ - the same city that he would call home his entire life.

Dave was a third generation native Arizonan and his childhood, alongside his two sisters, was filled with the joy of lifelong friends and the bonds of close-knit family ties. He graduated from Canyon del Oro High School in 1970, and briefly attended the University of Arizona before pursuing his life-long passions of geology, mining and astronomy. That led him to spend a large part of his life exploring the deserts, mountains and old mining towns throughout southern Arizona, hoping that he would find that gulch, wash or arroyo gleaming with gold.

Hutch spent his life garnering an amazing knowledge of Arizona history. That, along with his exceptional story-telling skills, made him a sought-after Jeep tour guide for many years. Added to that was his remarkable knowledge of desert survival. Friends and family always said he was the one that could keep you alive during a zombie apocalypse!

Although never married, Hutch was always close to his family and truly enjoyed spending time with his niece and two nephews. He has left a legacy of stories that will continue to be told in the family for decades to come.

David chose to have his ashes buried alongside his parents and more than 100 years of family members at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85705. Graveside services will be held May 4th at 11:00 am. “May the fourth be with you”. Always the punster, we’re certain that Dave is amused with the timing.

If your heart guides you, donations to Peppi’s House, 2715 N. Wyatt, Tucson, AZ 85712 would be entirely appropriate in thanks for all their kindness and care in the final days of this brilliant man's life.
