Obituary of Gene Berry

Gene was born in Detroit, Michigan and left in 1952 to join the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  He serve our country for 20 years and retired from Davis-Monthan AFB in 1972.  Gene remained in Tucson, his new career began with Tucson Federal Savings and Loan, thr many name changes, retired from Great American Savings Bank after 26 years.  Continuing with the banking industry, Gene became Sr. Vice-President with Saguaro Credit Union and for the "last Time" retired from Vantage West Credit Union.

During his banking career, he served the community of Tucson.  The list is long...Past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International, Advisory Committee of City of Tucson Community Development, Past President Girl Scout Council, Inc., Sahuaro Chapter, Past President Education Enrichment Foundation, Past President Tohono Chul Park, City of Tucson Planning and Zoning, City of Tucson, Black Chamber of Commerce, Past President City of Tucson Convention Center, Past President Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #20.

Continuing his fraternal involvement, Gene was raised to a 33rd degree Prince Hall Mason in 1982.  He was Deputy for the United Supreme Council from 1979 to 1987 then elected Auditor General of the Unite Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction Prince Hall Affiliation in 1987.  Continuing his Tucson dedication, he held chairs in his lodges, including Grand Master for the State of Arizona & Jurisdiction (1990-1996).  He is an Honorary Past Potentate, AEAONMS (Shrine).  Past Commander-in-chief of Noah Consistory #55, Past Recorder of Scimitar Temple #108 and Member of the Arizona Grand Council #1; Gene is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Gene is a parishoner and usher at St. Pius X Catholic Church where he and Marilyn his wife of 28 years shared much joy with God and dear friends.  His other passion is GOLF, shared by the "group" he and Marilyn played with every week, except when they would enjoy their summer home in Show Low, AZ.  Gene would always be up for a cruise, no matter where it was bound, the longer the better.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 28 years, one step-daughter and two step-sons, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephew and nieces, a sister-in-law and has been blessed with more great friends to count than stars.

The interment will be held at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana with full military honors at a later date.
