Obituary of Deacon Charles Joseph Whalen

WHALEN, Deacon Charles Joseph, 80, of Vail, AZ went home to God on Saturday March 17, 2018 with his loving wife, Lorraine at his side. He was born in  Brooklyn, NY and lived in upstate NY where he owned and operated a Mobile Station in Clifton Park for 24 years.  After retiring to Tequesta, FL, he ultimately moved to Tucson, AZ where he served as a deacon at Our Mother of Sorrows for the last 12 years. Charles was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas and his mother, Elizabeth Agnes (Brunner).  He is survived by his wife Lorraine; his brother, Jack; his four children, Maureen, Mary, Charles and Timothy; his step-sons, Robert, Michael and John; his grandchildren, Steven, Katelyn, Maggie, Ryan, Olivia, Judson, Sean, Celeste, Andrew, Mariah, Matthew, Meghan, Lily, and Samuel.  Charles loved his family and treasured his Catholic faith.  He enjoyed boating and fishing, horses and especially loved to tell a joke.  He will be greatly missed. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 South Kolb Road, Tucson.  Burial to take place in Calvary Cemetery Glenmont, New York.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sister Jose Women's Center,  1050 South Park Ave., Tucson, AZ 85719 www.srjosewomensshelter.org
