Obituary of Esther Seelman Manogue

Esther Seelman Manogue, age 100, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, at her home in Tucson, Arizona.  Esther was a beloved wife, a cherished mother of eleven children, a devout Catholic, and an award-winning artist.

Esther was born on June 1, 1923, to Irene Rohert and Jacob Seelman of Iowa.  A graduate of the University of Iowa, Esther was teaching art in Minnesota when she met her husband, Edmund Manogue, following his service in World War II. They married in 1946 and had eleven children. After Edmund finished his tour as an Air Force physician, they settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and later moved to Tucson. While raising her children, Esther earned a Master of Arts from New Mexico State University. She was a renowned local artist and won many awards for her colorful paintings.

After Edmund’s death in 2004, Esther married a life-long friend, Dr. Gerald Ivancie of Colorado, in 2006. She returned to her home in Tucson after Gerald’s death in 2016.

Esther was blessed with eleven children, Michele Wells, Lloyd, Lynne Mary (Ricardo), Juli Reynolds (Marc), James, Michael (Olivia), Keith (Susan), Warren (Jeanne), Renee, Catherine Coss (Robert), and Martin; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. 

Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church in Tucson on Tues., Dec. 5 at 10 a.m.  Bring’s Broadway Chapel is handling arrangements.  

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Amedisys Foundation or Corpus Christi Catholic Church of Tucson, Arizona.
