Obituary of Hazel G. Hickson Canfield Jendritza
Hazel was born in Ft. Defiance, AZ. On November 28, 1939 on the Navajo Reservation. Passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2023 in Tucson, AZ. At the age of 83. She graduated from St. Michaels Indian School in 1958. Hazel earned her RN Degree from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Amarillo, TX. She earned her BSN from Loretto Heights College in Denver, CO., then attended Frontier Nursing Service in Hyden, KY. For her CNM, also attended the University of Arizona College of Nursing for her MSN. She worked with the Indian Health Hospital in Ft. Defiance, AZ. Worked as an instructor at the U of A College of Nursing Program, became a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), and worked at the U of A Rural Health Office providing care in the rural areas of Three Points, Continental, Amado and Arivaca Clinics. Worked at Arizona Medical Services Clinic, she retired in 2006. Her life long devotion to nursing was truly amazing.
She married Edgar R. Canfield in 1963, then after his death in 1985, married Warren Jendritza in 1986. She served on the Arizona State Board of Nursing in Phoenix, AZ. A five year term. Hazel was also a long time parishioner of St. Kateri Catholic Church where she led the church decoration committee and made the chasubles, stoles, altar cloths and banners. She also served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector, served as a member of the Missionary Cenacle Apostalate at St. Kateri. She was a devout Catholic and had a devotion to her Catholic Faith. Hazel is survived by her daughter Joyce Canfield.
After retiring, she enjoyed her hobbies; sewing and designing, crocheting, plastic canvas art, traveling and visiting with family and friends.
She attended most of the St. Kateri Conferences throughout the U.S. She and her sister Elvira went to Rome, Italy in the Summer of 2000 for the Memorative 25th Anniversary of the Cursillo Movement.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday June 17, 2023 at 1pm, rosary to be recited at 12 pm at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church 507 West 29th Street, South Tucson, AZ 85713.
