Obituary of Anne Marie Thrift

Anne Marie (Annie) Thrift died peacefully at home in Tucson, Arizona on April 21, 2023. Annie was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 21, 1947, the first child of Dexter and Jane Stein. She graduated from Heelan High School and St Joseph’s Mercy School of Nursing.

In 1969, she married Bob Thrift and began a life of travel and adventure. For the next 23 years, Bob and Annie established homes at 12 different locations across the country and around the world. Following Air Force retirement, Annie established the family home in Tucson, AZ, which continues to be home base for all the family. Annie continued to travel the world with Bob during this phase of life and even lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for six years. The last fifteen years of Annie’s life were marked by gradually declining health and extended hospitalizations. Annie spent her last eleven years at home in Tucson and died there peacefully under hospice care surrounded by family and love. Annie loved life especially family holidays, vacations, and exploring beaches and collecting seashells around the world.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jimmy, and her sister Gloria. She is survived by her husband, Bob, her daughter, Robin Kornmuller (Steve) of Bangor ME, her son Peter Thrift (Melissa) of West Windsor, VT, grandchildren Quinn Ulisse Kornmuller, Lyra Kiely Thrift, and Reagan Francis Thrift. She is also survived by sisters Jean Stein of Belleville, IL., Patty Stein of Sioux City, IA., and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St Pius Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ at 10 am (MST) on April 27, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Annie's honour would be priceless.
