Obituary of Walden Gene Swanson
On March 22, 2023 Walden Swanson passed away in Tucson, AZ surrounded by loved ones. He was born on the family farm in Bristol, SD on September 2, 1932, to Fred and Gertrude. After graduating from High School he joined the Army. He served in Austria during the Korean War, and was a recruiter in Worthington, MN where he met and married the love of his life Karen Chepa. In the early 1960’s they moved to Tucson where he worked on the Titan Missiles at Davis Monthan AFB. When that job ended he did various jobs including working as a Fuller Brush man and a driver for Pepsi Cola, before getting hired and working as a purchasing agent at several copper mines. He enjoyed dove and quail hunting every year, especially when his sons-in-law and grandsons were with him. He also joined a skeet club, where he competed in the Senior Olympics, and won several gold medals. He also made many great friends. Swannie is survived by 3 daughters, Cindy Young (Louis), Pam Foitik ( Rich), Lisa Higgins ( Steve d.2021), 7 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 3 sisters and wife Karen (d.1982) Graveside service will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary & Cemetery (5801 E Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85712) on May 13th at 1:30PM. A reception will be held after at Cindy and Louis’s house
