Obituary of Robert E. Stirnitzke

Robert E. Stirnitzke went to his heavenly home on March 29, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 90. In 1951 during his senior year of high school Robert became an Eagle Scout. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Portia Jane in 1953 in Marion, Indiana. While attending Purdue University, he was recruited into the glee club and sang at President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 2nd presidential inauguration. After he graduated in 1955, Robert was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After serving his country for over 22 years, he retired in 1978. Robert enjoyed a second career as a professional Civil Engineer and had his own successful firm. In October of 1992 Robert was accepted into Post 66 of the American Legion. As a young man Robert enjoyed woodworking and photography. He loved John Wayne and could be found in his later years watching his favorite westerns and military movies. Most of all Robert enjoyed being surrounded by family. Preceded in death by wife, Portia Jane, son, Thomas, daughter, Lisa Marie, and daughter-in-law, Laura Ann. Survived by two children: Eric (Diana) Stirnitzke, Lacey, WA, and Ellen (Victor) Mongelli of Tucson; daughter-in-law, Sara Stirnitzke, Vacaville, CA; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
