Obituary of Margaret Mieko Urata

Margaret Mieko Urata, a loving wife, mother, friend and long time retired resident of Tucson, AZ, died unexpectedly on January 22, 2022 at the age of 79 at her home.

Marge is survived by her husband, Robert Urata; her son, Jason Urata and wife Carla; her grand daughters Sydney and Kendall; step-grand children Isabella, Andrew, Madelyn, and Abigail; sister-in-law Erla Sine. She is predeceased by her parents Kenichi and Kay Miyaji, her brother Robert Miyaji and sister Judith Miyaji.

Marge was born in Hilo, HI on July 19, 1942 to Kenichi Miyaji and Kay Watanabe. She graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1965 with a degree in Education and worked as a 4th grade teacher. On June 24, 1967, she married Bob, a research technician for Hughes Aircraft. Together, in the mid 60’s, they opened a chain of Hawaiian specialty clothing stores the major shopping malls in Southern California, called Miss Hawaii. On January 3, 1974 they welcomed their only son, who was the most important part of their life.

Marge was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma, who loved spending time with family. She had a passion for crocheting, it’s one of the things she was so well known for. She loved making blankets and baby blankets for family and friends, which were always cherished. She also showed her love for those around her by cooking for them and finding family recipes to share. She was a devout University of Arizona basketball fan and watched every game with Bob. When she wasn’t watching basketball, she loved the Hallmark channel and could never get enough of the movies and stories. Keeping a piece of her home state of Hawaii as close to her as possible, she was dedicated to taking care and maintaining tropical plants, even in the Arizona heat.

She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on February 19 at the Brings Broadway Chapel in Tucson, AZ, located at 6910 E. Broadway Blvd.
