Obituary of Velda Norton McBride

Velda Norton McBride, 90, of Salt Lake City Utah, was reunited with her beloved husband Bruce Lane McBride on January 14th, 2012. Her son Robert McBride, son-in-law Larry Logan, and grandson-in-law Mark Lessig also preceded her in death. She was born in the town of Central, in The Gila Valley of Arizona, on February 16th, 1921 to Mary Etta Webster and John Edward Norton; she was the youngest of nine children, the baby of the family. She was sealed for time and all eternity to her beloved husband in The Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the last living member of her immediate family, a family line that owes their conversion to the Mormon faith to her Great-Grandfather Norton's personal discussions with The Prophet Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois. Velda McBride was an astute businesswoman in Los Angeles, CA for several decades, buying and selling telecommunications companies before the advent of the personal message system. Velda survived breast cancer in the 1980's. She and Bruce retired in Newport Beach, CA and later moved home to their native Arizona until he passed away on December 30, 2003. While known and admired for her business acumen, her intelligent sense of humor, kindness and sweet personality were her greatest legacy. Even in the natural challenges of advanced age she was always so very kind and considerate to all who attended her. She passed away peacefully, while in home hospice, under the watchful and loving care of her youngest daughter Leora. Velda Norton McBride is survived by three children: Patricia Lane Logan of Murray, UT; Steven Bruce McBride and his wife Julie of El Macero, CA; and Leora Jo McBride of Salt Lake City, UT. Velda has 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; with two more on the way at the time of her passing.
