Obituary of Sang T Nguyen

Sang T. Nguyen July 30, 1923-Feb 14, 2012 Tucson, AZ Beloved mother and grandmother Mrs. Sang Nguyen passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the age of 88. She lived a long and prospers life. She was still active three days prior to her passing, and she took a road trip with family to visit her youngest granddaughter to New Mexico a week before. Sang was born in July 30, 1923 in Saigon, Vietnam. In the early 20 and 30, it was uncommon for a female to obtain higher education, but Sang determined to pursue higher education regardless of the obstacles that stood in her way. Education and self-reliance were very important to her. She could speak multiple languages: French, English, and Vietnamese. Due to her ability to speak multiple languages, she was able to work and support herself in her mid 30s. She was also the first generation that entered the workforce as a young mother. In the 1960’, Sang worked for USSD (State Department) as an executive assistant. As a promising young employee, her employer sponsored her trip to Washington DC for training in 1973, which was a highlight of her career. She was well respected and valued by her former bosses. In fact, they continued to corresponding through mails with her until a decade ago. Sang retired early due to the Vietnam War. She then became a natural homemaker. She enjoyed reading and doing homework with her granddaughters. She was a devoted grandmother and loved her grandchildren dearly. She taught them many valuable lessons in life. She was proud of her granddaughters, Misa Thai, Thuc Nghi Thai, and Nina Thai. In November of 1993, Sang moved to the United States to reunite with her son, Minh Thong Thai. Sang was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three of the four children. During her later life, Sang was cared for by her youngest child, Kim Thai, at home in Tucson, AZ. Sang is loved and cherished by her son, daughter and her three granddaughters. Sang is survived by her youngest child and three granddaughters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21 from 0900 to 1200 at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, 6910 East Broadway, Tucson, AZ 85712.
