Obituary of Edward Franklin McIntyre
Edward F. McIntyre "Grumpy" 1/5/1927 - 3/30/2012
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernardine C. McIntyre "Nana".
Survived by his sons, Francis (MJ), Michael (Laura) and Patrick,
granddaughters, Casandra (H), Michelle (Bill) and Kelli, grandsons,
Christopher and Andrew and great-grandson Dillan.
Edward first enlisted in the United States Army before the end of WWII and
was later deployed to Korea. Edward worked 19 years for the Pima County
Highway Department driving a road grader. Edward was also a proud member of
the 162nd Fighter Wing for 28 years as both a Traditional Guardsman and then
later as a Full Time Guardsman. Edward retired from the Arizona Air
National Guard with a total of 41 years of military service and at the rank
of Master Sergeant (E-7). When Edward retired, he gained notoriety as being
the last WWII vet to retire from military service in Arizona.
Edward had a deep love of Arizona and the Native American culture. He loved
to explore old ruins in hopes of finding an arrowhead or two. Edward's
greatest passion though was for all of his grandchildren and his new
great-grandson. He loved his nickname 'Grumpy'; his first grandchild
Casandra would say 'Grumpy' instead of 'Grandpa'. Edward took and wore that
as a badge of love and honor from his first grandchild.
