Obituary of Carolyn Lorraine Gunnell

Tucson â€" Carolyn L. (Scott) Gunnell died after 89 years well lived on May 14, 2012. Born September 1, 1922, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Amanda (Waggle) Scott. Carolyn grew up in Baltimore, and helped to support her family of 6 siblings at her aunt’s tea house during the depression. During World War II, she met the love of her life, Richard K. Gunnell, whom she married in 1945. Carolyn’s life’s work was being a mother and raising three children in Gowanda, NY. Carolyn also loved socializing with friends and tending to her rose gardens. Carolyn and Dick retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1980, where she delighted in the desert sunshine and warmth. They also took advantage of the opportunity to travel near and far. Carolyn’s energy for shopping and eating out never faded, even into her later years. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband in 2010. She was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers. She is survived by three children, Beverley Abbey of Tucson, AZ, Richard K. Gunnell, Jr., his wife Beth of Groton, CT, and their children Richard K. Gunnell III, Kendra and Jenna, and Diana “Dee” Pearson and her husband Stephen, of Groton, CT, as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to honor her life at a funeral service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson, AZ, or at a Graveside Service at noon at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ. Memorial donations may be made to an organization of your choice.
