Obituary of Melvin G. Brunner

Melvin George Brunner, Jr., loving husband, father and brother passed away with his wife and son at his side while in the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital (Tucson, AZ) on the evening of July 8, 2012. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Melvin George Brunner, Sr., and Myrtle Heitzmann Brunner on July 16, 1935 he is survived by his wife Mary Lynne Hammond Brunner (Green Valley, AZ), son Brant Brunner (Boulder, CO), sister Janice Dunnington (Loranger, LA), nephews Richard, Randy, Bruce Dunnington (Loranger, LA), niece Rhonda Dunnington Smith (Loranger, LA), brother-in-law Ray W. Hammond, wife Bonnie (Albuquerque, NM), and niece Caitlin Hammond (Albuquerque, NM). After graduating from Loranger High School, Mel enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served 2 years stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After an Honorable Discharge, he obtained a degree from Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, Louisiana. In 1969, Mel moved out west to Albuquerque where he would eventually meet Mary Lynne Hammond and marry in March 1972. In November 1973, Mel and Mary Lynne were blessed with their only child, Brant. In 1975, Mel purchased Carney Insurance Agency in Gallup, New Mexico which he sold in 2000. Upon selling his business, Mel and Mary Lynne retired to Quail Creek Golf Resort in sunny Green Valley, Arizona to enjoy his love of golf. A "Celebration of Mel's Life" will be held at Quail Creek Clubhouse, 2055 E. Quail Crossing Blvd., Green Valley, Arizona on Friday, October 5, 2012. The service will begin at 10:00AM.
