Obituary of Harold Lester Adams

Harold Adams, 83, passed into eternity after a lengthy illness in his home in Green Valley, Arizona on the morning of July 21, 2012 while surrounded by his family. Born in California in 1928, Harold’s family moved to various locations in Colorado and New Mexico before settling in Grants, New Mexico in 1949 where his father opened a retail business- Adams Department Store. Harold graduated from Denver University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and then served two years during the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Artillery. After the war, he returned to Grants to take over the Adams Department Store upon the death of his father. When economic conditions forced him to close the store in 1976, he transitioned to a career in the mining industry in Grants until he retired in 1998. He later moved with his wife to Green Valley in 2003. Harold married Kay Norsworthy of Phoenix, Arizona in 1958. Together they had three children, Charley, Mark, and Cynthia. Harold loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible either in his large organic garden or on the mountain camping or skiing. He participated in the Grants Quadrathalon numerous times. Over the years, Harold participated in several service organizations. He was a Rotarian in Grants and served as their president for a time. In 1977 he became a Kiwanian and served as chapter president both in Grants and in Green Valley. Harold is survived by Kay, his devoted wife of 54 years, by his children, Charley, Mark and Cynthia, and by his grandchildren, Ashleigh, Hayleigh, Sebastien, Tiffany, and Armaan.
