Obituary of Joseph Paul Demuth

Joseph Paul Demuth, 92 years old, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on Oct. 7, 2012 of natural causes. He was born on Sept. 3, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Alice Teresa (O’hare) and Adam Edward Demuth. He grew up in South Ozone Park, New York where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the Army Air Force July 16, 1942 and was discharged February 27, 1946 with a rank of sergeant. He came to Tucson when stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base where he met and later married Ellen “Shirley” Matthews. After being discharged he remained in Tucson and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Arizona Department of Transportation. He lived in Vail, AZ until 1956 when he was transferred to Three Points, where he remained until he retired after 30 years of working for the state of Arizona. After retirement he lived in Tucson until his death. He was a devout Catholic and had a strong work ethic. He and Ellen bought 3 lots in Tucson and he worked weekends building houses on those lots that were later used as rental houses for additional income. He was a kind soul and was always cheerful and pleasant to be around. When family or friends were in need of anything he was always there to help. His family was important to him and he was caregiver for a physically disabled brother for over 30 years. Joe has four surviving children: Joseph “Pat” (Carol), Jane Hiscox (Bill), Deborah Carrillo, and Nancy Long (Bill). Thirteen grandchildren: Patricia, Paul, Brett, Cory, Vicky, Allison, Jentry, Nicholas, Madison, Richard, Jackie, Shannon, and Brittany. There are also 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by siblings Teresa, Edward, Adelaide, William, Helen, Regina, and Andrew.
