Obituary of Fred Dahl

Frederick Niels John Dahl (November 25, 1927 â€" October 17, 2012). Frederick “Fred” Dahl completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, October 17, after a long battle with cancer. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Berniece Cataldo Dahl, nine children: Rosemarie Eskes, Arthur Fleming-Dahl, William Dahl, JanMarie Dahl, Denise Egan, Geralyn Goss, Thomas Dahl, Sue Popolizo, and James Dahl; 11 gandchildren; and his sister, Ann Dahl Volkman. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Frederick Niels Johan Dahl (1903-1975) of Stavanger, Norway and Crescence Fritton Dahl (1910-1988) of Lockport, NY. Fred spent his early years in Lockport, where he attended school and started his working life as a meat-cutter -- a skill he enjoyed throughout his life, and lovingly passed down to his children. After completing his Naval service in the South Pacific in 1948, Fred returned home and enrolled in Niagara University. Fred eventually transferred to, and graduated from, the University of Notre Dame in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Fred’s pride in Notre Dame was a central theme throughout his life â€" a pride he passed along to his children and grandchildren, who continue to passionately embrace it. After college, Fred embarked on a long career with General Electric, married and raised his large family over 35 years in Syracuse, NY. After retiring, Fred and Bernie moved to Tucson, AZ in 1992. While living in Arizona, Fred contributed his electrical skills to local Habitat for Humanity builds in and around the Tucson area. Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Friday, October 19, 2012, with Scripture at 2:00 pm, at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo.
