Obituary of Daniel Patrick Dewey
Daniel Patrick Dewey, age 90 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2022. Born in Plainview, SD on June 1st, 1931, his family moved to Illinois in 1936 where he had many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and where he farmed with his parents. He met his sweetheart, E. Lavon (Shere) Dewey at the Carroll County Fair and they married on June 3rd, 1950. Together they had 3 daughters, Cheryl A. Adams (Gary) of Hampton, VA, Sharon P. Feary (Roy) of Mustang, OK, and Jeanne Hank (Jonathan) of Mesa, AZ.
He is survived by 3 siblings, Carol (Dewey) Bergland of Mt Carroll, IL, Margaret (Dewey) Schinkel of Walcott, IA and Paul Dewey of Arcadia, FL. He has 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. After Daniel’s first wife passed, Daniel was blessed to have meet the second love of his life, Lois J. Chedsey of Tucson, AZ. They have been together 28 wonderful years. He also has 2 stepchildren Jacque (Steve) Leach and Joseph (Sherry) 1Chedsey both of Colorado with 9 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife E. Lavon Dewey of Tucson, AZ, his parents Donald and Mabel (Boltz) Dewey of Mt Carroll, IL, brothers Patrick Dewey of Plainview, SD and John C. Dewey of Sheridan, WY, a grandson Eric Feary of Mustang, OK and his stepdaughter Joni Duran of Flagstaff, AZ.
Daniel Dewey worked hard all his life and after farming, he worked at the Savanna, IL Armory in support of the Korean war efforts. He switched jobs to work on diesel engines for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway Company in Savanna, IL. Daniel worked as a diesel mechanic for the Trucking Industry in Illinois, Iowa and Arizona until he retired. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping family and friends working as a handyman. Now retired, Daniel and Lois also enjoyed traveling this great county from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast visiting friends and family all along the way. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. He loved his horse Smokey and coon hound Bullet. He enjoyed country music and made many trips to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and Grand Country Music Hall in Branson, MO to see all the great county music stars. A cowboy at heart, he loved all the old western movies and television shows starring all the legendary cowboys of days gone by! Happy Trails!!
Daniel was an active community member and he joined the Arizona Rangers holding the rank of Sargent for several years. He was a life-time member of the NRA and established the Southern Arizona Field Support Team. He attended many Arizona gun shows to promote NRA memberships and raise funds to support many worthwhile charities such as the local Boy Scout/Girl Scout troops, local church youth groups, St. Jude Children’s Research & Shriners Hospitals.
