Obituary of Eufracia Garcia Hernandez

Eufracia Garcia Hernandez is now at peace and with our Lord. On October 28, 2021, Eufracia, known to her family and friends as “Gracia,” passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 87. She was born on May 21, 1934, on her parent's sugar cane farm outside the village of Villa Purificación, Jalisco, Mexico. Gracia, the sixth of eleven children born to Jose Dolores Garcia (1899-1946) and Maria del Rosario (Uribe) Garcia (1901-1985), recalled her childhood filled with days happily climbing mango trees, eating mangos to her heart’s content, and playing with her siblings in the beautiful river that ran through their village. Two of her siblings survive her: Ana Garcia de Gomez of Burbank, CA and Roberto Garcia of Colton, CA. As a young woman, Gracia married Albert C. Hernandez (1925-2000) and immigrated to California eventually proudly becoming a U.S. citizen. They were blessed with five children: Lourdes Hernandez (Randall Hulet) Houston, TX; Lorenzo Hernandez (Lana) Tucson, AZ; Sandra Guadalupe Mastriona (Fred Mastriona) Avondale, AZ; Albert Hernandez (Vicky) Lake Elsinore, CA; and Marcos Hernandez of Buckeye, AZ. By the manner she lived her life, Gracia lovingly imparted bedrock values to her family. Among them, the importance of family, hard work, perseverance, honesty, generosity, and faith. She was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. With her can-do attitude she pushed through hardships and always found joy. Gracia took pride in the home she created for her family and her work as a steam-press operator for more than 30 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling back to Villa Purificación and around the US and Europe, including trips to France and Spain. Gracia made friends everywhere she went. At home she loved to garden and sew and the family’s many pets including Duke, Bingo, and Traviesa. Her family will never forget her beautiful singing voice, her love of life and laughter and her wit and sly sense of humor and that mischievous twinkle in her eye. Gracia’s legacy lives on through her children and beloved 14 grandchildren (Benjamin Hulet, Gabriella DeLay, Jessica Doyle, Teresa Hayworth, Veronica Thomas, Jenifer Hernandez, Rose Hernandez (d.1980), Steven Olin, Michael Olin, Robert Olin, Damien Hernandez, Brittany Angel, Jacqulyn Hernandez, and Jake Hernandez) and 11 great-grandchildren. The family wants to thank Gracia’s wonderful caregivers: Susana and Venecia Velasquez, Jenifer Hernandez and Lettie Venegas, and Gracia’s dedicated care team from Agape Hospice including Sylvia, Lakeshia, Andrea, Chaplain Rob, and Dr. Fullington for the excellent loving care they provided to our mother.
