Hobart Sharp

Obituary of Hobart Thomas Sharp

Hobart Thomas Sharp, 83, passed peacefully and was given his wings on October 4, 2021.

Born November 19, 1937, he was the last child to William & Tommie Sharp in Insull, Kentucky, where he lived with his family in coal mining camps.  At a young age his family moved to LaFollette, Tennessee where he began school. In search of a better job and life for his family, Bill moved them to Detroit in the 1950’s where Hobart completed High School. Hobart would continue to live there until he entered the Army in 1960.  Life after the Army brought Hobart with his Dad and Brother to Tucson, Arizona.  Here Hobart started his career in the grocery business, working for Food Giant Grocery Stores until his retirement.  Hobart was always a person who loved to “tinker and build” things;  growing up poor made him always want to fix anything he could instead of buying new.  Hobart loved being in the yard doing yardwork, thrift store shopping, listening to Country and Bluegrass music and watching Fox News.  Hobart was very interested in current affairs and American politics.

Uncle Hobie, as he was affectionally known to his nieces and nephews, was a very kind, gentle and caring soul.  He was always around to help whenever or how he could.  He was quiet, not much of a talker but yet always had an opinion when asked to share it.  Hobart loved being around his family, especially his older sister, June.  Even though they lived apart for many years, they have spent the last 10 years living together, taking care of each other and being there for each other. Their sibling bond was tighter than ever.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Hobart was preceded in death by both of  his parents, brothers Will Sharp and  Shirl (Hank) Sharp.  He leaves behind his loving sister, LaHoma June Sharp, nieces Tommie Miller & Rayna Kruszewski of Tucson. Nephews Ron Sharp, David Sharp & Derek Sharp of Tennessee.  He also leaves behind many great nieces and nephews and their families.

The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of Peppi’s House for making Hobart’s last days comfortable.  At Hobart’s request for “no fuss”, there will be a private family service with burial in Tennessee at a later time.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made in Hobart’s name to Peppi’s House/TMC Hospice, 2715 N Wyatt Drive, Tucson, Arizona 85712.
